My BA Fine Art degree afforded me three decades as an art director,
graphic designer, print and reproduction expert, as well as the privilege of illustrating a number of children’s books.

I have been humbled by the frustrating challenge of navigating ‘Art for Fun’ in stark contrast with ‘Art as an Income’.

Growing up in a cultural hub, such as South Africa, I am an advocate for equal rights. Having had my own personal experience, as most artists do, of using art as a vessel to heal. I teach art to show others that they belong and that art is a form of self love, self expression and ultimately healing growth.

Reshaping art education and challenging age-old ‘rules’ aligns with my creative values for freedom in art culture. As teachers we have a responsibility to give permission, push boundaries, experiment, play, make a mess, recognize happy accidents and humble ourselves to learn from our students ultimately encouraging the student to surpass the teacher.

THERE ARE NO MISTAKES IN ART ONLY UNEXPECTED SURPRISES
